Lara Tacke is a theatre director based in Berlin and Brighton.
She first studied Art and Design at Central Saint Martins in London before training in directing at the Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Arts in Berlin and the Danish National School of Performing Arts in Copenhagen.
Her early collaborations with the Finnish performance collective Four Floors of Whores shaped her practice, and their close collaboration continues to this day.
Her graduation piece THE GARDEN was invited to the "Körber Studio Junge Regie" 2021 at Hamburg’s Thalia Theater. Since then, she has directed productions for international festivals and venues, including Deutsches Theater Berlin (The Assassination of Emperor Elagabal by Giorgi Jamburia), Baltic Circle Festival, Helsinki (The Church by Four Floors of Whore) and Sort/Hvid Theater in Copenhagen (Animal by Alexandra Moltke).
Lara’s productions often cross languages and are created through collective, participatory rehearsal processes. She is drawn to stories of how experiences, beliefs, and myths are passed down through generations, approaching them from a feminist perspective. Her artistic language unfolds associatively, through powerful imagery and choreographic form to create personal and distinctive nuances.
Alongside her directing work, Lara also participates at grass-root level to create theatre with children and young people, teaches regularly at Teaterhøjskolen Rødkilde in Denmark, and gives workshops on “female leadership” and co-creative rehearsal techniques.
